McLarty Associates Announces Additions to its Board of Counselors

Dear Friends,

We are pleased to announce new developments at McLarty Associates.

First, please welcome two distinguished public servants to our Board of Counselors.  Our Board helps ensure that we and our clients have access to the very best insights in key markets around the globe, from respected statesmen and women who have served their governments with distinction at senior levels.

Nabil Fahmy was most recently Egypt’s Foreign Minister, serving under interim President Mansour and current President El Sisi.  Before that he was founding dean of the School of Public Affairs at the prestigious American University in Cairo, and previously spent a decade as Egypt’s ambassador in Washington.  Few people bring as rich an understanding of the current dynamics in Egypt, in the region, and vis-à-vis the United States.

Minister Fahmy joins our strong Middle East and North Africa team to help our clients maneuver in that complex region.

Mari Pangestu served as Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, and before that as Minister of Trade.  In these key roles she dealt extensively with foreign companies doing business in Indonesia.  She is a seasoned advocate for trade and commercial interests, and will support our Southeast Asia team in helping companies seize opportunities in Indonesia and the rest of this fast-growing part of the world.

Also, please explore our new website, which offers more information regarding our firm’s increasing capabilities around the globe, including our McLarty Inbound practice, as well as recent news, announcements, and other noteworthy firm developments.

Personally,
Nelson W. Cunningham

President

Nabil Fahmy

Nabil Fahmy is a member of McLarty Associates’ Board of Counselors, based in Cairo, Egypt.

Ambassador Fahmy served as Egypt’s foreign minister from July 2013 to June 2014, serving under interim President Mansour and current President El Sisi.  Leading Egypt’s diplomatic affairs during a time of challenge and transition for Egypt and the Arab world, Ambassador Fahmy oversaw the process of recalibrating and energizing Egypt’s foreign policy.  He also initiated a restructuring of the foreign ministry and its policy planning process in order to respond to emerging challenges.

Since leaving the foreign ministry, Ambassador Fahmy has served as dean of the school of global affairs and public policy at the American University in Cairo.  He also served in that position, as the school’s founding dean, from 2009 to 2013.

Previously, Ambassador Fahmy was Egypt’s ambassador to the United States from 1999 to 2008, and before that ambassador to Japan from 1997 to 1999.  He also served at Egyptian missions to the United Nations in Geneva and New York, and as political advisor to the Egyptian foreign minister.  He has also headed numerous Egyptian delegations and international expert groups on conflict resolution and disarmament issues.

Ambassador Fahmy is a widely published expert on Middle Eastern and international affairs.  He holds a bachelor’s degree in physics and mathematics and a master’s degree in management from the American University in Cairo.
