Program Overview

McLarty Associates is proud to offer paid temporary positions through our Internship and Graduate Fellowship Program. We seek highly motivated students who are interested in learning more about the field of international strategic advising and who have a strong background in regional and international studies as well as economics, trade and/or business.

Interns and Graduate Fellows are an integral part of our team. The focus of the internship is on research and writing, however selected students are viewed as active participants in the entire client services process and thus get exposure beyond research.

Students who are currently attaining a Master’s degree are eligible to be a Graduate Fellow.

Our Internships and Graduate Fellowships are offered on a semester basis:

  • Spring: January to May (applications accepted beginning in November)
  • Summer: June to August (applications accepted beginning in March)
  • Fall: September to December (applications accepted beginning in July)

Research Associate, Brazil & Southern Cone Practice

McLarty Associates is seeking a motivated, resourceful, and high-energy individual to be the full-time Research Associate in support of the Brazil & Southern Cone practice.

Responsibilities of the position include conducting extensive research, drafting memos and reports, preparing presentations and briefings on public policy, economics, international politics, and business issues in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, and Paraguay, as well as other regional and global issues (e.g. trade agreements, negotiations) and multilateral organizations (e.g. WTO, PAHO, etc.).

Qualifications for this position include a BA or MA (Master’s degree preferred) or equivalent combination of education and work experience in International Relations, Political Science, International Business or a related field.  The ideal applicant is well-organized, is a resourceful and accomplished researcher, and is an excellent writer in English with a solid understanding of international politics, economics, and business.  The applicant should have a strong background, demonstrated interest in, and/or experience living or studying in Latin America, as well as near fluency in Portuguese and strong Spanish.

Successful applicants must also demonstrate the ability to exercise independent judgment, interact comfortably with senior-level contacts, anticipate needs, adapt to demanding and fluid situations (i.e. deadlines), and collaborate in a team environment.  It is critical that the applicant be able to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.

Internship and Graduate Fellowship Opportunities

Internship or Graduate Fellowship, Sub-Saharan Africa Practice

McLarty Associates is seeking a graduate student or undergraduate senior for a part-time of full-time paid spring internship (full-time preferred) focusing on Sub-Saharan Africa. The Sub-Saharan Africa intern also supports the Canada practice and occasionally works with the Food & Agriculture practice.

Responsibilities include extensive research of public policy and business issues, writing memos, monitoring regional news outlets, attending and reporting on speeches, panel discussions and policy forums of interest to the firm and clients, assisting professional staff with general office and administrative support, and a commitment to work from mid-January through late-May.

The ideal applicant is an accomplished researcher, an excellent writer, and exceptionally organized with an independent and creative nature. Ability to work calmly under pressure and juggle multiple projects at a time is highly valued. The applicant should also possess an understanding of international politics, economics, trade, business, and culture, especially in regards to technology and entrepreneurship. He or she should have a robust background, demonstrated interest, and/or experience living or studying in a country within Sub-Saharan Africa. Regional language strongly preferred, particularly French, but not required. Proficiency with PowerPoint, Excel, Office 365, and other business applications are considered assets.

McLarty Associates is seeking a graduate or undergraduate student with demonstrated interest in Latin American affairs and/or business for a part-time or full-time paid semester internship (full-time preferred). The core area of responsibility will focus on Brazil and the Southern Cone region.

The intern will conduct extensive research on public policy and business issues, attend and report on policy forums of interest to the firm and clients, assist professional staff with general office and administrative support, and provide translations. Candidates must be able to commit to this position from January through approximately mid-May.

The ideal applicant will have:

  • Experience researching in Portuguese and English
  • Exceptional writing skills in English
  • Near fluency in Portuguese and strong Spanish
  • A strong background and a demonstrated interest in Latin America
  • An understanding of international politics, economics, government relations, and the private sector
  • Experience living and/or studying in Latin America
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills

McLarty Associates is seeking a graduate or undergraduate student with demonstrated interest in Latin American affairs and/or business for a full-time paid semester internship. The core area of responsibility will focus on Mexico, Central America, and the Andean region.

The intern will conduct extensive research on public policy and business issues, attend and report on policy forums of interest to the firm and clients, assist professional staff with general office and administrative support, and provide translations. Candidates must be able to commit to 40 hours per week from January through approximately mid-May.

Ideal applicants will have:

  • Experience researching in Spanish and English
  • Exceptional writing skills in English
  • Fluency in Spanish
  • A strong background and a demonstrated interest in Latin America
  • An understanding of international politics, economics, government relations, and the private sector
  • Experience living and/or studying in Latin America
