Internship and Graduate Fellowship Program Overview

McLarty Associates is proud to offer paid temporary positions through our Internship and Graduate Fellowship Program. We seek highly motivated individuals who are interested in learning more about the field of international strategic advising and who have a strong background in regional or international studies, economics, trade, and/or business.

Interns and Graduate Fellows are an integral part of our team. The focus of the internship is on research and writing; however, selected interns/graduate fellows are viewed as active participants in the entire client services process and get exposure beyond research.

Individuals who are currently attaining, or have obtained, a Master’s degree are eligible to be Graduate Fellows.

Our Internships and Graduate Fellowships are offered on a semester basis:

  • Spring: January to May
  • Summer: June to August
  • Fall: September to December

Current Opportunities

Associate, Mexico/Latin America

McLarty Associates is seeking a bright, resourceful, highly organized individual to serve as an entry-level Associate to support the firm’s Mexico practice directors and the Northern Latin America practice more broadly. We are seeking to fill this position immediately.

Responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to:

  • providing administrative support for Mexico practice directors (coordinating and maintaining schedules, completing expense reports, event planning, making travel arrangements, etc.);
  • monitoring regional news outlets;
  • conducting research and analysis of economic, political, security, trade, technology, public policy, international, and business issues;
  • writing memos, compiling biographies, preparing presentations;
  • attending and reporting on speeches, panel discussions, and policy forums of interest to the firm and clients;
  • other duties as assigned.

We are seeking individuals who are:

Ideal candidates for this position possess an understanding of the regional economic, cultural, business, and political dynamics in Mexico and Latin America more broadly. Applicants must have a robust background, demonstrated interest, and/or experience living or studying MexicoFluency in Spanish (reading, writing, speaking) is required; native speaker strongly preferred. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US.

Associate, Brazil & Southern Cone

McLarty Associates is seeking a motivated, resourceful, and high-energy individual to be an Associate in the Brazil & Southern Cone practice.

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • providing intense research and light administrative support for the Brazil and Southern Cone team;
  • conducting research on policy developments, economic and political trends, and other business-related issues across in Brazil & the Southern Cone;
  • extensive writing including preparing presentations and drafting memos, briefings and short reports in support of our client work;
  • monitoring of regional and global issues (e.g. trade agreements) as well as developments at multilateral institutions (WTO, OECD, PAHO, etc.) that could impact investment objectives in the region;
  • administrative duties include supporting the leadership team of the Brazil & Southern Cone practice with schedules, travel arrangements, expense reports and other light administrative tasks.

We are seeking individuals who are:

  • excellent writers with strong verbal and written communication skills in English as well as proofreading and editing experience;
  • exceptionally well-organized with an independent and creative nature;
  • able to manage and adapt to changing priorities, to remain poised under pressure, and to juggle multiple projects at a time;
  • able to multi-task and complete tasks in a timely manner whether working independently or as part of a team;
  • attentive to details;
  • able to operate in a fast-paced work environment while maintaining a high level of professionalism, mature judgment, and confidentiality;
  • strong critical thinkers;

Qualifications for this position include a BA or MA or equivalent combination of education and work experience in International Relations, Political Science, International business or a related field.

Ideal candidates must have a robust background, demonstrated interest, and/or experience living or studying in Latin America. Candidates should also be up to date on current policy, political and business issues in the region.  Near fluency in Portuguese and strong Spanish is required. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US.
