Internship and Graduate Fellowship Program Overview

McLarty Associates is proud to offer paid temporary positions through our Internship and Graduate Fellowship Program. We seek highly motivated individuals who are interested in learning more about the field of international strategic advising and who have a strong background in regional or international studies, economics, trade, and/or business.

Interns and Graduate Fellows are an integral part of our team. The focus of the internship is on research and writing; however, selected interns/graduate fellows are viewed as active participants in the entire client services process and get exposure beyond research.

Individuals who are currently attaining, or have obtained, a Master’s degree are eligible to be Graduate Fellows.

Our Internships and Graduate Fellowships are offered on a semester basis:

  • Spring: January to May
  • Summer: June to August
  • Fall: September to December

Current Opportunities

Associate, Africa

McLarty Associates is seeking a bright, resourceful, highly organized individual to serve as a full-time, entry-level Associate to support both the firm’s Africa practice and one of the firm’s Managing Partners.

Responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to:

  • conducting research and analysis of economic, political, security, trade, public policy, international, and business issues in Africa;
  • writing memos, drafting proposals, compiling biographies, preparing presentations and client deliverables;
  • monitoring regional news outlets to stay informed of current events and business development opportunities in Africa;
  • providing administrative support to the head of our Africa practice and a Managing Partner who is focused on global client management, to include coordinating and maintaining their daily schedules, appointments, events, travel arrangements, and expense reports;
  • managing the Africa practice’s involvement with the U.S. Nigeria Council for Food Security, Trade, and Investment, including operational and administrative support and coordination of two to three annual events;
  • attending and reporting on speeches, panel discussions, and policy forums of interest to the firm and the Africa practice’s clients;
  • other duties as assigned.

Ideal candidates for this position possess an understanding of the regional economic, cultural, business, and political dynamics in sub-Saharan Africa. Applicants should have a robust background, demonstrated interest, and/or experience living or studying in a country in sub-Saharan Africa. Regional language proficiency strongly preferred, particularly French, but not required. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US.

Intern/Graduate Fellow, Office of the Chairman and Office of the President

McLarty Associates is seeking a bright, resourceful, highly organized individual for a paid internship/graduate fellowship to support the Office of the Chairman and Office of the President. We are seeking someone who can start immediately and who can commit to working approximately 20 hours per week from January to May 2020, with some work potentially occurring outside of regular office hours.

Responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to:

  • monitoring markets and key industries to identify business development opportunities and conducting background research on potential business leads;
  • compiling biographies, preparing presentations and client deliverables;
  • attending and reporting on speeches, panel discussions, and forums of interest to the firm and the Offices of Chairman and President;
  • providing support with planning and executing events;
  • assisting with firmwide communications and media efforts, including drafting tweets and social media posts and preparing background support for McLarty Associates’ podcast;
  • tracking and researching financial and global macro policy topics;
  • other duties as assigned.

Intern/Graduate Fellow, Thailand/Southeast Asia

McLarty Associates is seeking a bright, resourceful individual for an entry-level, paid, internship/graduate fellowship primarily focused on Thailand. This individual will support our Southeast Asia practice. We are seeking an individual who can commit to work approximately 10-20 hours per week beginning immediately through May 2020.

Internship/graduate fellowship responsibilities generally include:

  • conducting extensive research of public policy, international, and business issues;
  • writing memos, compiling biographies, preparing presentations;
  • monitoring regional news outlets;
  • attending and reporting on speeches, panel discussions, and policy forums of interest to the firm and clients;
  • assisting professional staff with general office and administrative support; and
  • other duties as assigned.

We are seeking individuals who are:

  • exceptionally organized with an independent and creative nature;
  • strong critical thinkers;
