Robert Fitts


Robert Fitts, Senior Advisor, advises clients on issues in Southeast Asia, especially Thailand, from his base in Bangkok.

Ambassador Fitts concentrated much of his 32-year Foreign Service career in the ASEAN region with multiple postings in Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines as well as in various Washington assignments. He ran the US Embassy in Manila as Charge D’Affaires for the year following 9/11 and later served as Ambassador to Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands. Most recently, Ambassador Fitts served as Director of the American Studies Program at Chulalongkorn University’s Institute of Strategic and International Studies in Bangkok.

Ambassador Fitts received a BA in electrical engineering from Tufts University and served in thePeace Corps in Malaysia. His early State Department career was as an economic analyst. He speaks Indonesian, Malay, and a modest amount of Arabic.
