Kai Abe McGuire

Kai Abe McGuire, Associate, supports our Northeast Asia practice and is a specialist in Japan affairs.

In addition to the Northeast Asia practice, Kai also supports a multilateral project at the firm. Prior to McLarty, Kai was an American member of the Embassy of Japan’s Congressional Affairs team, where he used his background on both sides of the Pacific to bridge the gap between Japan and Congress, working intimately with senior Japanese diplomats and congressional staff to communicate priorities between the two allies.

Previously, Kai worked at the Massachusetts State House of Representatives, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Japan Chair, and the House of Representatives of the National Diet of Japan.

Kai speaks Japanese and Russian and has lived in Japan, Russia, the Republic of Georgia, and the United Kingdom in addition to the United States. He is a graduate of Tufts University where he double-majored in International Relations and Russian and Eastern European Studies, and calls Tokyo, Japan and Dennis, Massachusetts home.
