Jose is a Master of Public Policy student at the University of Maryland School of Public Policy specializing in International Security and Economic Policy and International Development Policy. Prior to his time at Maryland, Jose served as Head of Trade Intelligence at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and MSMEs of the Dominican Republic, where he actively collaborated on questions of trade policy and trade negotiations. He also has professional experience at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, and the academic sector. He holds a Masters in Caribbean Studies from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, as well as a BA in International Studies with a Concentration in Political Science and a BS in International Economics from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Jose actively seeks to promote diversity and inclusion in international affairs and diplomacy. In 2017, he was recognized with the University of St. Thomas Global Citizenship Award, which honors a member of the community who demonstrates global citizenship through consistent efforts to be respectful & inclusive of other cultures & viewpoints, contributions that improve the climate for other cultures & people, connections made between the University & the world. Since then, Jose has continued to promote diversity and inclusion efforts, recently completing a Certificate in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace at the University of South Florida.
