Jesús López-Gonzalez is an advisor in our Mexico practice. With a profound understanding of Mexico’s political landscape and governmental procedures, Dr. Jesús López-Gonzalez has over two decades of experience and leadership within Mexico’s federal administration and legislative sphere. His distinguished career includes roles such as chief of staff at the Office of the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs and ambassador of Mexico to Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, and Suriname, concurrently representing Mexico as its permanent envoy to the Association of Caribbean States. During the pivotal 2018 presidential race, Dr. López-Gonzalez shaped the foreign policy agenda of Dr. José Antonio Meade. He seamlessly transitioned into the legislative arena, serving as staff director for the influential Senatorial Committee on Foreign Affairs for Latin America and the Caribbean from 2019 to 2024. In the academic field, Dr. López-Gonzalez served as dean of El Colegio de Veracruz, a prestigious publicly funded research institution specializing in International Relations, Political Science, and Regional Development. He also authored seminal works on Mexico’s armed forces and national security. Additionally, his involvement in the Atlantic Council’s Task Force on Development Models exemplifies his dedication to shaping global policy dialogues. Dr. López-Gonzalez holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations from Mexico’s National University, a master’s degree in development policies, and a doctorate from the government department of the London School of Economics.
