As the backbone of the South American continent, the Andes region is home to diverse geographies, cultures, and political and economic environments, offering some of the world’s most promising and overlooked business opportunities. Colombia is the third largest destination for US exports in Latin America, boasting economic stability and openness to foreign investment. Peru, like Colombia, is a member of the Pacific Alliance trade bloc and is becoming increasingly attractive to companies seeking to expand from North to South or East to West. And despite their more challenging political environments, Venezuela, Bolivia, and Ecuador enjoy abundant natural resources and offer a wealth of investment opportunities.
McLarty Associates’ extensive work throughout the Andean Region reflects our firm’s Latin American roots. Our team includes former Ambassadors, seasoned diplomats, and senior government officials who have been deeply involved in the development of regional policies for decades, including the negotiation of free trade agreements with Peru and Colombia, the fight against guerillas and narco-trafficking in Colombia, and the navigation of political and economic crises in Venezuela. We’ve helped our clients succeed in this complex region through periods of dramatic political change – identifying potential partners and targets, evaluating political risk, and developing successful investment strategies. Our longstanding political and business ties have enhanced our capabilities in industries as diverse as infrastructure, energy, consumer goods, transportation, technology, media and financial services.
Helping Clients Succeed
Assessing Risk: We monitored the political situation in Venezuela following a turbulent transition of power, and provided regular advisory on political risk and strategy to firms in the technology, retail, manufacturing, and financial services sectors.
Entering New Markets: We helped a major US bio-pharmaceutical company craft its government relations presence, partnering plan, and advocacy strategy in Colombia, and manage issues related to biotechnology and innovation in other countries across the region.
Expanding Operations: In Colombia, we worked with an international lottery gaming system and services corporation to craft and implement a government affairs strategies that resulted in the firm being awarded a concession contract to manage an online lotto game.
Resolving Disputes: We helped to negotiate a settlement between an Asian multinational client and the Colombian government over a government-owned utility.
