I am pleased to announce that Edward S. Verona, former President of the U.S.-Russia Business Council (USRBC), energy specialist and diplomat, has joined our Europe and Eurasia practice as Senior Advisor.
A former foreign service officer, Mr. Verona has extensive ties to the energy and mining sectors and his experience leading the USRBC will help strengthen our capabilities in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and across Eurasia. We look forward to drawing upon his broad expertise in the energy sector and far-reaching networks throughout the region. Mr. Verona will base in our Washington, D.C. office.
Edward S. Verona
Edward S. Verona serves as Senior Advisor for McLarty Associates, where he advises clients on issues in Russia and throughout Europe and Eurasia and also focuses on energy matters. Prior to joining McLarty, Mr. Verona served for five years as President of the U.S.-Russia Business Council (USRBC), where he led the Council’s efforts to provide government relations services to American and Russian companies and facilitate American entry into the Russian market.
Before joining USRBC, Mr. Verona spent many years in the energy sector and in the foreign service, in former Soviet states and also in Latin America. He served as Vice President of ExxonMobil Russia, with responsibility for government and public affairs., and for Texaco as Russia Country Manager, Kazakhstan Country Manager in Almaty, and as International Government Affairs Advisor in Washington, D.C. He spent two years as Chevron Texaco’s Vice President for Government and Public Affairs in Latin America, based in Venezuela. Mr. Verona began his energy sector career working for Shell Oil Company in New York City, and he first worked on energy issues in Russia in 1996 as Executive Director of the Moscow-based Petroleum Advisory. He has served as Chairman of the Kazakhstan Petroleum Association and as Chief Representative of Barrick Gold in Russia.
Prior to joining Texaco, Mr. Verona served for seven years in the U.S. Foreign Service as Economic Officer in Mexico City, Brasilia, and Moscow. In 1980, he joined equipment manufacturer Ingersoll-Rand as Special Representative in Bolivia, Ecuador, and Miami.
Mr. Verona graduated from the University of Arizona in 1979 with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, and he holds a Masters of International Management from the American Graduate School of Global Management (Thunderbird) in 1987. He speaks Russian, Spanish, and Portuguese.
