Luis Téllez serves on McLarty Associates’ Board of Counselors based on Mexico. His extensive career in government and the private sector makes him uniquely suited to advise clients on issues related to the Mexican market.
Dr. Téllez currently serves as Senior Advisor at KKR & Co. and leads their operations in Mexico. Prior to this, he served as the Chairman and CEO of the Mexican Stock Exchange. He was the Secretary of Communications and Transportation of Mexico in the administration of President Felipe Calderon. Under President Ernesto Zedillo he served as Secretary of Energy and Chief of Staff to the President. Earlier in his career he also served as Sub-secretary of planning in the Secretary of Agriculture and Water Resources and as Director General of tax planning in the Secretary of Finance and Public Credit.
In the private sector Dr. Téllez has experience advising both financial and energy companies. He was the Executive Vice President of Desc SA de CV, one of Mexico’s largest industrial companies, and Co-director of the Carlyle Group in Mexico. He participated in the Finance Committee of FEMSA, the Executive Committee of Grupo México, and the Audit Committee of BBC Bancomer. He has also been an advisor to Sempra Energy and Global Industries.
He holds a BA in economics from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México and a PhD in economics from MIT.
