Eric Trachtenberg, Director, manages our Food & Agriculture practice.
Before joining McLarty in 2012, he served as Vice President, International Trade Policy, for the USA Poultry & Egg Export Council (USAPEEC) where he led a market diversification strategy to open major new markets to US poultry exports and worked on market access issues in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the former Soviet Union.
Before moving to USAPEEC in 2010, Mr. Trachtenberg worked for USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) both in Washington and overseas. During his 15-year government career, he served as a foreign service officer in key US export markets, including China, Taiwan and the Russian Federation. From 2007 to 2010, Mr. Trachtenberg was posted in Beijing with FAS at the US Embassy. While in China, he served for two years as Director of the Agricultural Trade Office in Beijing and for a year as Senior Agricultural Attaché in the Office of Agricultural Affairs. He also supervised USDA agricultural development programs under Food for Progress in Mongolia for the entire three years in Beijing. From 2001 to 2005, Mr. Trachtenberg served in the agricultural affairs section at the American Institute in Taiwan, and from 1998-2001 he was at the US Embassy in Moscow. While at FAS in Washington, he worked on agricultural trade policy issues, international development, management of overseas posts and foreign service personnel, forest products, and participated in the World Trade Organization accession negotiations for Russia, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
Prior to his FAS career, Mr. Trachtenberg worked in the US House of Representatives, the Environmental Protection Agency, and on the Taiwan stock market.
Mr. Trachtenberg received an MPA in Public Administration from the University of Southern California and an MS in Agricultural Economics from Michigan State University where he concentrated in public policy and international economic development. He also completed a BA from Cornell University with a double major in Government and Economics. He speaks Russian and Mandarin.
